Our Mental Health
Recovery Support
Living with a psychosocial disability can make some everyday tasks more challenging, whether that's keeping up with routines, managing household responsibilities or getting out into the community. Better Care is a registered NDIS provider offering psychosocial disability and mental health support across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the Central Coast, Maitland, Cessnock and Port Stephens, NSW.
We work with participants to find support that suits their needs and goals. This might mean getting help at home, having someone alongside you for daily activities or finding ways to get involved in your local community. Whatever your goals look like, we'll work with you to explore the support options available through your NDIS plan.
Defining Psychosocial Disability
Psychosocial disability refers to the disability-related impacts of a mental health condition on a person's ability to participate in everyday life. These impacts vary from person to person and may affect areas such as communication, relationships, daily routines, employment, independent living and community participation.
A mental health diagnosis does not automatically mean someone has a psychosocial disability or qualifies for NDIS funding. Eligibility depends on the NDIS access requirements and the person's individual circumstances.
NDIS psychosocial support focuses on the practical assistance and capacity building that can help eligible participants manage everyday activities, develop skills and pursue their goals. The aim is to support greater choice, independence and participation in the areas of life that matter to each person.
NDIS Mental Health Support Services We Provide
Every participant has different goals, preferences and support needs. We take the time to understand what matters to each participant and what support would work best for them.
How We Work With You
There is no single approach to psychosocial recovery that works for everyone. We take the time to understand what matters to each participant, what they want to work towards and what kind of support fits their everyday life.
Your goals guide the support you receive. That might mean establishing a routine, building practical skills, reconnecting with activities you enjoy or working towards a more independent living arrangement.
Support Built Around Your Goals
We understand that everyone's experiences are different, and past experiences can shape how a person feels about receiving support. Our trauma-informed approach prioritises safety, trust, respect and choice, helping participants feel heard and involved in decisions about their support.
We recognise each participant's strengths, preferences and individual circumstances. By working at their pace and respecting their boundaries, we aim to create a supportive environment where they can work towards their goals and greater independence.
Trauma-Informed, Person-Centred Support
Having the same support worker where possible means participants can get to know the person supporting them and settle into a routine that works for them. Over time, that familiarity can help build trust and make everyday support feel more comfortable.
Our team takes the time to get to know each participant, respect their preferences and provide support they can rely on.
Consistency and Trust
Working Alongside Your Support Network
Psychosocial support may form one part of a participant's broader support network. Where appropriate and with the participant's consent, we can work alongside support coordinators, GPs, psychologists, psychiatrists and other allied health professionals involved in their support.
This collaboration can help keep support aligned with the participant's goals and ensure everyone understands their role.
